About Ride the Roses
A journey along waterways that once carried coal and cotton
to fuel the great northern cities. Past lever-operated locks
unchanged since 1804. Through valleys where the Pennines
rise like ancient sentinels, connecting two northern cities
across England’s backbone.
The red rose of Lancashire and the white rose of Yorkshire.
Two living symbols of place and pride, carried along this
route from Manchester to Leeds in support of Breast Cancer
Now and Ovarian Cancer Action.
Route 66
The route follows the National Cycle Network’s Route 66 —
Britain’s answer to America’s most famous road.
From Manchester through the Calder Valley, into Todmorden,
past Hebden Bridge, along historic canals and railway paths
reclaimed for riders.
Seventy kilometres of the most beautiful countryside England
holds, ending in Leeds.
The ride begins Saturday at 10:00am in Manchester, with
start waves every thirty minutes. By evening, you arrive in Leeds.
Your entry fee includes:
- Feed stations with tasty snacks, and toilets on the route
- Clear directional signage throughout
- Mechanical support
- Medical support
- Ride Angels to encourage and support you
- A medal to say thank you
- Optional bus ride to take you back to Manchester
