Join the Women V Cancer Cycling Adventure in Greece!

Experience an extraordinary journey through ancient landscapes, camaraderie, and supporting vital women's cancer charities. Pedal through Greece's captivating routes, from Olympia to Tripoli, Nafplio to Loutraki, and culminating in Athens with a stunning backdrop of the Acropolis. Enjoy comfortable accommodations, delicious meals, and expert support throughout. All skill levels are welcome to join this life-changing adventure. Your itinerary

Days 1
Arrival in Athens, Greece

Upon your arrival at Athens airport, you will be warmly welcomed by our dedicated assistant in the arrival hall. They will guide you to the waiting bus, which will transport you directly to Olympia, the starting point of your incredible cycling adventure. The journey from Athens to Olympia will take approximately 3 hours and 30 minutes. Once you reach Ancient Olympia, you will have a brief meeting with our experienced bike experts, who will be there to assist you and ensure everything is prepared for the following day. Enjoy a delicious dinner at the Olympia Hotel, where you will also spend the night.

Day 2
Olympia to Tripoli | approx. 125km

After a satisfying breakfast at the hotel, you will embark on your cycling tour from Olympia to Tripoli. The route will take you along the scenic coastal road of Kyparissiakos Gulf, leading you through the captivating landscapes and villages of Magalopoli. Eventually, you will reach Tripoli, covering a distance of approximately 125 km. Unwind and replenish your energy with a well-deserved dinner and spend the night at the hotel in Tripoli.

Day 3
Tripoli to Nafplio | approx. 128km

Indulge in a hearty breakfast at the hotel before commencing your cycling journey from Tripoli to Nafplio. Today's route will showcase a beautiful rocky environment, with an exciting stop at Mycenae, the Homeric city of the Atreides. Explore the historical treasures of Mycenae, including the Lions Gate, Cyclopean Walls, and Royal Tombs, immersing yourself in the rich history of this ancient city. Continuing through the fertile plain of Argolis, you will eventually arrive at Nafplio, a picturesque town nestled at the foot of a cliff, adorned by the mighty ramparts of the Palamidi Fortress. Cycle a distance of approximately 128 km, indulge in a delicious dinner, and spend the night at a charming hotel in Nafplio.

Day 4
Nafplio to Loutraki | approx. 92km

After enjoying a satisfying breakfast at the hotel, embark on the next leg of your cycling adventure from Nafplio to Loutraki. On this route, you will pass through the historic city of Argos and venture just outside Ancient Corinth. The highlight of the day will undoubtedly be crossing the Corinth Canal. This impressive canal connects the Gulf of Corinth in the Ionian Sea with the Saronic Gulf in the Aegean Sea, effectively separating the Peloponnese from the Greek mainland. Marvel at the engineering feat as you cycle across this unique passage. Finally, arrive in Loutraki, covering a distance of approximately 92 km. Enjoy a delightful dinner and spend the night at a comfortable hotel in Loutraki.

Day 5
Loutraki to Athens | approx. 82km

Fuel up with a delicious breakfast at the hotel before embarking on the final leg of your cycling journey from Loutraki to Athens. Follow the scenic coastal road of Kakia Skala, passing by Elefsina as you make your way to the vibrant capital city of Athens. Brace yourselves for a truly memorable experience as you capture group photos with the iconic Acropolis as your backdrop. We have specially prepared t-shirts for this occasion, ensuring a unique and unforgettable souvenir from your trip to Greece. Upon reaching Athens, head to your hotel where you will be welcomed with a refreshing drink. Later, savor a delightful dinner and spend the night at an Athens hotel.

Day 6
Departure from Athens

Enjoy a scrumptious breakfast at the hotel, savouring your last morning in Athens. Afterward, check out from the hotel and gather your belongings. Our dedicated assistant will be waiting for you in the lobby. Together, you will board a comfortable bus that will transfer you to Athens airport, ensuring you arrive in ample time for your return flight home. Reflect on the incredible memories made during your Women V Cancer cycling adventure in Greece as you bid farewell to this enchanting country.

  • Pay a non-refundable registration fee of £349, which is used to administer the challenge and secure your seats with the airline.
  • Fundraise the minimum sponsorship target of £3,950 for Women V Cancer at least 12 weeks before the challenge starts.
  • Providing you have raised the funds, the Women V Cancer charities will pay the challenge costs on your behalf.
  • The challenge costs cover flights (not including airport taxes and the fuel surcharge, capped at £475), your food, accommodation, transfers, entry fees, guides, bike hire, mechanics and medical support, including a UK doctor with expedition medicine training.
  • Please also remember to budget for your airport taxes and fuel surcharge (capped at £475).
  • The more money you can raise, the higher the percentage of funds that will directly support the work of the amazing Women V Cancer charities, so please do your best to exceed the minimum fundraising target.

Please don't be! Our Women V Cancer charity cycling challenges are renowned for their camaraderie and the majority of people will sign up for Women V Cancer Cycle Olympia to Athens on their own.

Once you've signed up, we'll send you a link to a private Facebook group for everyone registered for the challenge. Please feel free to use this space to swap tips and updates with your fellow Women V Cancer warriors on your training and fundraising.

You may also want to reach out to your fellow participants in this group to see if there's anyone in your local area you can meet up to train and fundraise with.

Women V Cancer Cycle Olympia to Athens is not designed for Olympic athletes – it is designed for people looking for an amazing charity challenge to train and get fit for. A number of the people who will take part in this challenge will have a low level of fitness when they sign up.

This adventure is the perfect motivation to get fit, gain amazing insight into the history and culture of Olympia and Athens, make a massive impact for people facing breast, cervical and ovarian cancers.

Absolutely not! One of the amazing things about our Women V Cancer cycling challenges is that people of all ages come together to do something very special. Everyone who is 18 years old or over by the challenge is more than welcome to join our Cycle Olympia to Athens.

Your non-refundable registration fee of £349 per person is used to administer the challenge and secure your seats with the airline.

Your challenge costs cover:

  • Your flights (not including airport taxes and the fuel surcharge, capped at £475).
  • Meals throughout the challenge.
  • Accommodation*.
  • All transfers and luggage transportation in Greece.
  • Entry fees where required.
  • A team of awesome, outdoor remote first-aid trained local guides and Dream Challenges staff.
  • Full support from the Dream Challenges office in the lead-up to and during your challenge.
  • Medical and mechanical support, including a team of outdoor remote first-aid trained challenge guides and a UK doctor with expedition medicine training.
  • Your Women V Cancer Cycle Olympia to Athens 2024 medal.

*Accommodation is included on a twin-sharing basis. If you would rather pay for a single supplement and have a room/tent to yourself, we can arrange this for you for an additional cost.

A cycling helmet is essential. Cycling shorts are also recommended and everyone will need their own water bottles or a CamelBak-type hydration system.

Apart from that, no specialist equipment is required. We will supply you with a list of everything you will need to take before you go.

Cyclists will have the use of 18 or 21-gear bikes and we recommend you bring the saddle or gel cover you are used to riding on, so you feel right at home on your bike.

 

In addition to paying your registration fee (£349) and either self-funding your challenge or fundraising the minimum sponsorship target, you'll need to budget for your:

  • Airport taxes and the fuel surcharge (capped at £475).
  • Personal travel insurance.
  • Gratuities and personal expenses.
  • You may also choose to pay for a single supplement at our accommodation.

We will stay in comfortable hotels on a twin-sharing basis throughout this Women V Cancer challenge.

Our hotel accommodation is included in your challenge cost on a twin-sharing basis. If you would prefer to have a room to yourself and pay for a single supplement, we'll be happy to arrange this for you at an additional cost.

The group size for this challenge is likely to be around 15-25 people.

You will need to take out your own personal travel insurance upon registering for this challenge, covering health, accident, loss and repatriation. We advise that you arrange personal travel insurance as soon as you can after you register to ensure you have coverage for your booking as well as the challenge itself.

Dream Challenges has a provider detailed in your Welcome Pack, which you will receive shortly after booking your challenge, which provides appropriate cover for this type of activity and also covers you for cancellation due to medically-diagnosed COVID-19. You can, however, take out your own insurance, providing it covers you for a charity cycle ride in Greece.

The Dream Challenges team are here to help you achieve your cycling challenge for Women V Cancer and we will support you all the way. We are on hand from the minute you sign up to answer any questions that you may have about your training or the challenge itself.

Once you have registered, we will send you regular email updates with everything you need to know about your challenge, including the itinerary, an example insurance policy, details about our challenge destination and the weather we can expect on our cycle, the structure of an average cycling day, a full kit list and a realistic training plan to help you get fit for the challenge. The training programme builds up gradually as the event gets closer.

We'll also send you seasonal fundraising ideas. During the cycle, we'll have a UK doctor with expedition medicine training accompanying the group at all times, along with a team of outdoor remote first-aid trained challenge guides.

As we're not medically trained, we're afraid we can't offer you advice on this. We recommend you contact your GP or your local travel clinic, who will have the latest travel health advice.

Of the £3,950 minimum sponsorship target you raise, £1,975 covers your challenge costs.

The remaining 50% (£1,975 or more if you've exceeded the target) goes directly to the work of the three charities, divided equally between Breast Cancer Now, Ovarian Cancer Action and Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust.

The money you raise funds the vital work of our three Women V Cancer charities who are raising awareness, providing support and funding research into breast, ovarian and cervical cancers.

If you don't reach your fundraising target, you can top up the remaining funds yourself or you're more than welcome to transfer to another challenge for Women V Cancer, with all the funds you have already raised and your registration fee going towards the new challenge. Please get in touch with us at least 17 weeks before the challenge departure date and we can transfer you for an admin fee of £50.

No, your main luggage will be transported each day by our support team. However, at the start and end of the challenge, you will need to make your own way to and from the airport in London with your luggage.

You will need a bag to go on your bike or a waist bag for things like your phone, camera, sun cream, tissues etc. Any extra items you may need during the day can be carried on the support vehicle, which you will have access to at the snack stops and lunch.

We fully support gender and sexual equality and the majority of our open challenges welcome all gender identities.

However, we've found that many of our Women V Cancer participants feel more confident taking on challenges in female company.

Women V Cancer gives women from all cycles of life the platform, atmosphere and the opportunity to come together and conquer a mighty feat for our amazing charity trio.

These women-only challenges also have an incredible camaraderie and you're likely to make friendships that will last a lifetime.
