Duration | 4 days |
Get ready for our epic new Women V Cancer challenge, cycling coast to coast across the UK! In two stunning, sweaty days, we’ll cycle from Workington to Tynemouth through some of the UK’s most spectacular scenery and raise vital funds for Breast Cancer Now, Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust and Ovarian Cancer Action.
Following an expertly-crafted route, we’ll kick off at the edge of the West Coast and cycle on smooth tarmac through the quintessential British countryside. Our 118-mile challenge will be no easy feat, but the expansive views across rolling fields and forests will reward us well.
We’ll tackle tough climbs as we cycle up through the Lake District and the North Pennines, two areas famous for their outstanding beauty. Then we’ll catch our breath on a joyous descent, following the River Tyne through Newcastle upon Tyne to Tynemouth.
In one weekend, we'll push ourselves to the limit, make friendships that will last a lifetime and most importantly, make a huge impact for our Women V Cancer charities, so that they can continue to be there for people facing cancer.
We’ll find our finish line at the water’s edge at the furthest eastern point of the United Kingdom and soak up the vistas across a sparkling sea. Here, we’ll celebrate our phenomenal achievement for Women V Cancer with a very well deserved glass of bubbles and a delicious Celebration Dinner.
Pay your registration fee (£99) and fundraise £990 or more for Women V Cancer.

As with all our Women V Cancer challenges, this cycle is open to all women looking for motivation to get fit and make a difference for people facing cancer.
We welcome participants of all fitness levels to take part, but strongly advise that you train. Cycling approx. 118 miles in two days is no small feat. We'll be tackling long distances and encounter some tough climbs as we cycle through the North Pennines.
When you register for the challenge, we'll send you a welcome pack to help you prepare, which includes a training plan to follow in the months leading up to the ride.
Signing up to Women V Cancer Cycle Coast to Coast UK 2023 is the perfect incentive to get fit, make friends, support three invaluable charities and have the experience of a lifetime.
Please don't be! The majority of people will sign up on their own and our Women V Cancer challenges are renowned for the incomparable camaraderie and life long friendships made as our groups take on these incredible feats together.
Once you've signed up for the challenge, we'll send you a link to a private Facebook group for everyone registered for Women V Cancer Cycle Coast to Coast UK 2023. Please feel free to use this space to swap questions, advice and updates with your fellow cyclists on your training and fundraising.
You may also want to reach out to the fellow WVC warriors in this group to see if there's anyone in your local area you can meet up to train and fundraise with.
Absolutely not! One of the amazing things about Women V Cancer is that people of all ages will come together to do something very special. Everyone over the age of 18 is welcome to take part in this challenge.
16 and 17-year-olds may also be able to join the ride, provided they are accompanied by an adult. Please email us at bookings@dream-challenges.com to discuss their participation.
No, bike hire is not included in your challenge costs, so please bring your own bike and we recommend having it serviced ahead of the challenge to make sure it is in top shape for this epic charity cycle.
This is an all on-road cycle, so we advise bringing a road bike or a hybrid bike. If you plan to use a mountain bike, we would advise fitting road tyres for the challenge. You are also more than welcome to use an electric bike.
Please also bring spare inner tubes specific for your bike and fit bike lights to the front and back. We will not be cycling at night, but bike lights are advised in case of gloomy weather. Please remember it is essential to wear a helmet at all times throughout the cycling challenge.
We'll start our challenge on the Thursday evening at a hotel in Workington. We will send all participants details of the hotel, including the address and parking options, as soon as it is finalised. Workington has fantastic public transport connections, but please make sure there will be room for your bike when arranging travel.
If you plan to drive, please get in touch for parking options.
Your non-refundable registration fee of £99 is used to administer the challenge and pay deposits to suppliers.
Your challenge costs of £495 (ie. 50% of the fundraising target) cover:
*Please note that bike hire is not included, so please bring your own bike.

If you don't reach your fundraising target, you can top up the remaining funds yourself or you're more than welcome to transfer to another challenge for Women V Cancer, with all the funds you have already raised and your registration fee going towards the new challenge. How you fund your challenge is entirely up to you. Some women will decide to pay their own challenge costs (£495) so they can tell their donors that the donation they are making is going directly to support the work of the charities. Others will fundraise the full amount of £990.
The Dream Challenges team is here to help you achieve your Women V Cancer cycling challenge and we will support you all the way. We are on hand from the minute you sign up to answer any questions that you may have about your training, fundraising or the challenge itself.
Once you have registered, we will send you a Welcome Pack with everything you need to know about your challenge, including the itinerary, an example insurance policy, information about all three of the Women V Cancer charities, seasonal fundraising ideas, the structure of an average cycling day, a full kit list and a realistic training plan to help you get fit for the challenge. The training programme builds up gradually as the event gets closer.
We'll also send you regular updates in the lead-up to the challenge with more important details and seasonal fundraising ideas. During the cycle, we'll have a UK doctor with expedition medicine training accompanying the group from the get-go and at all times throughout the challenge, along with a team of experienced, outdoor remote first-aid trained challenge guides.
Please bring your own bike. As this is a long-distance, on-road cycle, we advise you to use a road or hybrid bike and electric bikes are also welcome. We'll have mechanical support throughout the challenge, but please also bring two spare inner tubes specific to your bike.
If you are planning to use a mountain bike, we recommend that you fit road tyres to your bike, so that you can enjoy a smoother ride.
A cycle helmet is essential and must be worn at all times. Cycling shorts are also recommended and everyone will need their own water bottles or a CamelBak-type hydration system.
We'll send you a kit list for the challenge in your welcome pack when you register.
No, your main luggage will be transported each day by our support team.
However, at the start and end of the challenge, you will need to make your own way to and from Workington with your bike and luggage.
You will need a bag to go on your bike or a waist bag for things like your phone/camera, sun cream, tissues etc. Any extra items you may need during the day can be carried on the support vehicle, which you will have access to at the snack stops and lunch.
Of course you can. We include a transfer back from our finish point in Tynemouth to our starting point in Workington on Day 4, but if you would prefer to stay in Tynemouth or make your own way home from there, you are welcome to. Please make sure to let us know ahead of the challenge.
The money you raise funds the vital work of our three Women V Cancer charities, who are raising awareness, providing support and funding research into breast, ovarian and cervical cancers.
