Trail of the Nabataeans: Jordan Desert Trek

From:£1,750+ Registration Fee

Summary

This incredible desert trekking adventure leads you through some of Jordan’s most spectacular and mysterious landscapes. Over six unforgettable days of walking, you’ll cross ancient valleys, climb through the Black Mountains, wander along old Bedouin trails and follow a hidden approach into Petra, one of the Seven Wonders of the World.

We begin at the Dead Sea, the lowest point on Earth, where the salty water lifts you up like you’re weightless, a strange and brilliant sensation that sets the tone for the week to come. After a beautiful transfer along the shoreline, waterfalls and canyons flashing past the window, we arrive at Wadi Araba where a gentle warm-up walk eases us into the vast, quiet landscape.

From there the challenge rises. Each day we trek deeper into remote desert mountains, climbing from 200m to 1,350m, crossing white sandstone domes and narrow canyons carved over centuries. Bedouin camps appear in the distance and disappear again just as quickly, giving us a real sense of how life carries on out here far from the towns and main roads. Nights are spent in simple desert camps, with fires glowing, tea boiling, and a sky so full of stars you almost forget to sleep.

One of the trip’s biggest highlights is the final approach into Petra. Instead of the busy main gate, we arrive from the east, dropping in near the Monastery, a truly unforgettable moment. We then spend time exploring the ancient pathways, carvings, tombs and towering stone façades that make Petra one of the most remarkable places on Earth.

After finishing the trek at Wadi Musa, there’s time to celebrate, rest, or explore a bit more. Some people choose to visit the majestic desert of Wadi Rum on the final day, an optional extension that feels like stepping straight into a movie set, with its enormous rock towers and endless silence.

This challenge is a journey across landscapes shaped by wind, history, and human stories stretching back thousands of years. Expect meaningful friendships, physical achievement, moments that take your breath away, and memories you carry long after the desert sand is brushed from your boots.

Day by day itinerary

London – amman – dead sea

We meet at the airport in London and fly together to Amman, Jordan’s capital and a surprisingly modern, lively city. After landing we meet our local team and take a short transfer straight to the shores of the Dead Sea.

You’ve probably heard about the healing salt and minerals, but nothing quite prepares you for floating on top of the water like a cork, it’s impossible to sink! It’s the lowest place on Earth at 410m below sea level, which feels strange and brilliant at the same time. Dinner and rest at our hotel tonight.

Please don’t be! Many participants will sign up for this trek solo, and it’s a fantastic opportunity to meet like-minded challengers. Once you’ve registered, we’ll send you a link to a private Facebook group where you can connect with fellow trekkers, share training tips, and discuss fundraising ideas.

You may also want to reach out in the group to find training partners in your local area.
