Why Gillian is Walking the Night

The 27 July 2019 will see hundreds of amazing men and women walking the streets of London through the night, in support of people affected by breast and prostate cancers, the two biggest cancer killers. Here, the wonderful Gillian Ratcliffe shares her story behind Walking the Night to raise vital funds for CoppaFeel! and Prostate Cancer UK.

I will be taking part in Walk the Night 2019 on Saturday 27th July 2019 and attempting to walk half a marathon (13.1 miles) through London to encourage men to go for a PSA blood test and to raise awareness and money for the vital research carried out by Prostate Cancer UK.

This is something that is close to my heart as on the 4th December 2018, my dear hubby was diagnosed with prostate cancer, Stage 3.

Our lives changed in the space of an hour, from leaving home to attending the appointment to hearing the news that it was prostate cancer.

He'd never had any symptoms, only an ache in the groin and he decided to go to the GP to request a PSA blood test. He was informed that he had prostate cancer and then had to go for an MRI scan and bone scan to make sure that it hadn't spread to the bones - luckily it hadn't.

The last few months have been challenging. We have had highs and lows and lots of tears. My hubby opted for the radical prostatectomy, which he had on 17th January 2019.

On his 6 week follow up appointment, we were given the wonderful news that the cancer had not spread outside the prostate.

Challenge yourself to Walk the Night and help save lives

Breast and prostate cancers are the two most common cancers in the UK and they also take the most lives. The invaluable Walk the Night 2019 charities, CoppaFeel! and Prostate Cancer UK, are dedicated to saving and supporting the lives of people affected by these cancers and of course, putting an end to the disease once and for all.

Why not join Gillian and hundreds more kind people on this incredible half or full walking marathon and help to raise vital funds and awareness against cancer?
