Fundraising with a difference: The Worcester Saucy Women

2018 has seen a group of incredibly inspiring women all come together to create the Worcester Saucy Women Calendar 2019 in support of Women V Cancer. Inspired by the movie Calendar Girls, Tania Skerritt and Jody Murray, who both lost close family members to cancer, organised a day brimming with the Women V Cancer community spirit, where 108 amazing ladies took part in a naked photo shoot at Whitbourne Hall and Longlands Farm.

Out of it came The Worcester Saucy 2019 Calendar, currently on sale with all proceeds going towards Tania’s and Jody’s Women V Cancer Cycle Costa Rica 2019 challenge to raise money and awareness for Women V Cancer. Here, Jodi tells us how it all came about.

The whole idea started as Tania lost her father very quickly to Lymphoma and my husband lost his father to cancer. My husband had run the London Marathon in his grandfather's memory and I wanted to do something in his father's memory. Tania and I had spoken to so many people in similar situations and wanted to do something positive. We also love a challenge, so we signed up for the Costa Rica cycle.

Then came the crazy idea, which was actually a joke at the time, to make a Calendar Girls calendar. Tania’s response was “Let’s do it!”

We thought at the time, the calendar would have one woman for each month, but this was not the case! It turned out so many people wanted to support us for many different reasons, so we had 108 women and a waiting list the week before our photoshoot.

It took us four months to plan the Worcester Saucy Women Calendar 2019 and photoshoot and it was a truly inspiring and emotional day. So many businesses have supported us, too, with the project. Everyone helping us has their own story for taking part; some have lost family and friends to cancer, lots of our ladies are cancer survivors or are in treatment for cancer at the moment. As I say, truly inspiring women.

The Worcester Saucy Women 2019 calendar has raised a whopping £10,000 for Women V Cancer so far and the figure is still climbing as 2019 approaches and more people buy this truly special calendar. Tania’s and Jodi’s project has drawn an amazing response from the local businesses and media, with both Tesco and Freedom Leisure Gyms stocking the calendars and the Worcester News and Take a Break following their story.
