Why volunteer?

  • See what Ride the Night is like - Volunteering as a Ride Angel or Ride Maker is a perfect way to get a taste of Ride the Night before signing up for next year's challenge.
  • Support a friend or family member who's taking part in the challenge. Many people choose to volunteer while their partner, sister, mother or friend completes the challenge. You can cheer them as they set off or return from their ride or even see them at a Feed Station along the way.
  • Make friends - Whether you join us as a Ride Maker or a Ride Angel, you'll get the opportunities to meet our Women V Cancer charity reps, the friendly Dream Challenges team, a group of fellow event volunteers, and over 1,000 Women V Cancer heroes. Why not take this chance to make new friends?
  • Help the Women V Cancer charities in a huge way - By supporting this amazing event either as a Ride Maker or as a Ride Angel, you will enable more of the funds raised for the challenge to go directly to the life-saving work of Breast Cancer Now, Ovarian Cancer Action and Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust.
  • Enjoy a delicious free meal from the event food vendors. We'll supply you with a meal voucher when you check in to volunteer.
  • Get a Women V Cancer Ride the Night London 2023 medal and lanyard!

No matter what your role is, all Ride Makers and Ride Angels will first meet at the Ride the Night London start/finish venue, Kempton Park Racecourse. Our Ride Maker and Ride Angel co-ordinators will meet you there and direct you to where you need to go and what you need to do.

Many of the Ride Maker roles, including bike rack supervision, registration assistant, and village volunteers, will be based at the Kempton Park Racecourse.

If you are helping at one of the Ride the Night Feed Stations, our staff will drive you to and from the Kempton Park Racecourse to the feed station you have registered for.

If you're driving, the Kempton Park Racecourse is less than one mile from Junction 1 of the M3, via Junction 12 of the M25.

If you're planning to travel via public transport, there’s a train station literally on the doorstep! The racecourse boasts its own on-site station, Kempton Park, just 200 yards from the Premier Enclosure entrance. Trains will run every half an hour from Waterloo, with a journey time of only 40 minutes.

*When booking public transport, please check with the train line or coach you're taking that they'll allow for you to bring your bike on board!

Need more info on the venue? Please check out the Kempton Park Racecourse website here, which is full of useful information.

We will let you know if your volunteer application has been successful approximately 4-6 weeks before the event. We will confirm the role you will be allocated and the exact timings and provide you with more information and instructions.

Your role throughout the night will be to support and encourage the riders around the route. You will be positioned amongst a group of riders and will be wearing a ‘Ride Angel’ high-visibility vest so the riders will be able to spot you while
cycling.

You can choose which cycling distance you help on: 100km and 50km.

You have no responsibilities in terms of first aid; your role is to give the riders moral and practical support while out on the course. It is essential that you can fix a puncture. This is so you can help women with punctures throughout the course, as mechanical support will prioritise major mechanical faults over punctures.

The challenge will start from Kempton Park Racecourse, and you will be required to arrive at the venue between 5-7pm ready to meet your Ride Angel Co-Ordinator.

Everyone will have a meeting with the Ride Director at 8pm. The participants will set off in waves between 9pm - 11pm.

Yes, if you would like to stay in the area on Friday night before the challenge or once you complete your challenge on Saturday night, there’s a Premier Inn and a Travelodge approx. 5 minutes away from Kempton Park Racecourse. You can see the 10 closest hotels to the venue here.

We recommend you book your room early to get a better rate. It’s also worth checking you have a free cancellation option or purchase insurance for your booking in case you need to cancel your stay.
