Your itinerary

Saturday 16th September 2023
From 6 pm | Check-in Opens

Check in to Ride the Night Manchester 2023 from 6 pm-8.00 pm at our start/finish venue in Manchester. Collect your free pink high-visibility vest, drop any stuff you don't need for your cycle at our secure Bag Drop and your bike at our bike racking station, and head to the pasta party tent for your free pasta supper.

We'll get you all feeling the power with motivational speeches, music and warm-ups, so by the time our first wave of cyclists sets off at 9 pm, you’ll be raring to go!

Take this time to relax and make new friends, before you're called to your start wave. Soak up the exciting atmosphere, meet reps from Breast Cancer Now, Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust and Ovarian Cancer Action at the charity stalls, and check out the various stalls and vans for Ride the Night merch and refreshments for you and your supporters to purchase.

Don't forget to take loads of photos and share them on Facebook and Instagram, with hundreds of you all dressed up in pink and crazy outfits.

From 9 pm
Staggered Starts

We set you off in groups of around 75 women at two-minute intervals to take on either a 50km or a 100km route around Manchester, depending on which you choose.

You can select your start time when booking your place for the challenge (9.00 pm, 9.30 pm, 10 pm or 10.30 pm). Each start wave has a limited number of spaces, and these will fill up super-fast, so please register early to secure your preferred start time.

Our routes aren't finalised yet, but they will be circular, all on tarmac and clearly sign-posted, so there's no way you'll get lost. Both routes will take you past loads of famous Manchester landmarks and we'll have marshals peppered along the way to cheer you on and guide you in the right direction.

Along the routes, there'll be Feed Stations with a variety of tasty, free snacks and drinks (vegan and gluten-free options available) to keep you energised throughout the challenge. Each Feed Station will also have first aid support, bike mechanics and toilet facilities.

Finishing back at our start venue, we'll cheer you across the finish line and present you with your shiny Ride the Night Manchester 2023 medal. There'll also be hot drinks and a warming breakfast available to buy before you make your way home.

Remember, Ride the Night Manchester 2023 is not a race! Women V Cancer is non-competitive to the core and there are no event timings. Faster cyclists may complete Ride the Night Manchester in five hours, whilst slower cyclists will take up to nine hours. The cut-off time is 7 am on Sunday morning, but no one will be left behind, as we’ll have a sweeper van behind the final group of cyclists.

FAQs
Ride the Night Manchester 2023

Ride the Night Manchester 2023 is designed for women from all cycles of life looking for a challenge to get fit for and push themselves out of their comfort zone to raise funds for people facing cancer.

Cycling 100km (approx. 62 miles) or 50km (approx. 31 miles) in one night is a mighty challenge, but it’s achievable if you train and we provide you with a training plan that you can download at any time from the Ride the Night Manchester 2023 tips and resources page here.

Many women who take part in this special charity bike ride will have a low fitness level when they sign up. Ride the Night Manchester 2023 is the perfect motivation to train and get fit, whilst raising funds for three amazing charities.

Take it from one of our wonderful Ride the Night London past participants, Joanne:

"Come on ladies, I did the 100km challenge and I'd never been on a bike before I signed up. You have people cheering you all the way around and an absolutely fantastic feeling when you finish! I will definitely do it again! When I signed up, I was the same as everyone else, like "sure I can do this," but as the time got closer, I started to question why I had entered - but I'm so glad I did!

The money you raise funds the vital work of our three Women V Cancer charities who are raising awareness, providing support and funding research into breast, ovarian and cervical cancers. If you’d like to know more about how each charity is making a difference for women affected by cancer, visit their websites below.

Breast Cancer Now

www.breastcancernow.org

Registered charity no 1160558 (England and Wales) and SC045584 (Scotland) and 1200 (Isle of Man).

Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust

www.jostrust.org.uk

Registered charity no. 1133542 (England and Wales) and SC041236 (Scotland)

Ovarian Cancer Action

www.ovarian.org

Registered charity no. 1109743 (England and Wales) and SC043478 (Scotland)

To take part in this amazing Women V Cancer charity bike ride, we ask you to fundraise a minimum of £100 by Friday 4th August 2023 (6 weeks before the event), so that your challenge can make a difference for people facing cancer at an extremely tough time.

The money you raise is split evenly between our three charities and will go a long way to help them continue their vital work...

£30 could buy a bottle of specialist dye to stain cancer cells so that Ovarian Cancer Action’s researchers can study them with a microscope.

£100 can enable Breast Cancer Now to send out another 1,000 leaflets to GPs to promote breast checking and inform them about the signs and symptoms of breast cancer.

£500 will enable Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust to provide a weekend of training to two new Helpline volunteers supporting hundreds of women.

Join the 500 club!
If you raise £500 or more by Friday 4th August 2023, you will get a free official 500 club cycling jersey.

Please take a look at our Tips and Resources here to fuel your inspiration and smash your challenge like a superhero. We will also send you seasonal fundraising ideas in the lead-up to the challenge.

The registration fee and event costs (included in the sponsorship target) cover:

  • Full event management and support - the Dream Team are on hand from the moment you sign up for the challenge to provide any help you may need and answer any questions.
  • Our start/finish venue in Manchester, with toilet facilities, a supervised bag drop and bike racking, help desk etc. We'll release the full details of our venue and how to get there closer to the event.
  • Pre-challenge warm-up and entertainment, with motivational music and speeches, charity and supplier stalls and a variety of refreshments available for you and your supporters to purchase.
  • Pasta supper for all participants before the cycling challenge starts (vegan and gluten-free options available).
  • 2 expertly designed, safety-assessed and signposted routes around Manchester with marshals.
Feed Stations on the routes, with a variety of tasty refreshments, water and hot drinks (vegan and gluten-free options available).
  • Ride the Night high-vis vest.
  • Ride the Night Manchester 2023 medal.
  • Bicycle mechanics (both roaming and at the start/finish).
  • First aid support (both roaming and at the start/finish).

  • Your Ride the Night Manchester 2023 resources, including training plan, sponsorship forms and Rider Pack, with your Rider Manual, Bike Number and Rider Number.

The more money raised by participants on the challenge the higher the percentage of funds that directly support the work of the three charities. We, therefore, encourage you to exceed the minimum fundraising target.

Our Ride the Night Manchester 2023 start/finish venue and routes are not yet confirmed, but you can bet they'll be spectacular. Both the 50km and 100km routes will take you past loads of iconic Manchester landmarks, which will look even more magical at night.

Closer to the cycling challenge, we'll release the full route details with GPS links, but both routes will be very well sign-posted with marshals at key points to guide you in the right direction. There will also be Feed Stations, with a variety of tasty refreshments to keep you energised throughout your challenge, plus toilet facilities, bike racking and first aid support.

Both the 50km and the 100km routes are well lit and on tarmac. However, you will still need to have your bike lights on throughout your cycle and to keep spare batteries on hand.

You need to be 18 years old or over to take part in Ride the Night Manchester 2023. There's no maximum age limit. One of the amazing things about Women V Cancer Ride the Night Manchester 2023 is that it brings adults of all ages and from all cycles of life together for one incredible cause.

16 and 17-year-olds may participate if given permission by the event organisers. Please get in touch with us at bookings@dream-challenges.com or call us on 01590 646410 (Monday-Friday, 9 am-5 pm) and we'll be happy to help.

Absolutely! If you plan to take part on a handbike, please let us know in advance. Call us on 01590 646410 (Monday-Friday, 9 am-5 pm) or email us at bookings@dream-challenges.com

Please bring your own bike with working front and rear lights, along with a spare inner tube.

Of course! You are more than welcome to use an electric bike. We recommend that your bike is serviced before the challenge to minimise the chance of any mechanical problems.

You need to bring your own bike and a cycling helmet is essential. It is also essential that you have front and rear lights fitted on your bike. Please bring spare batteries too. We provide bike mechanics but do ask that you bring a spare inner tube that is specific to your bike, should you get a puncture on the challenge.

Need to hire a bike?
We're delighted to have British Bike Hire supporting Women V Cancer Ride the Night Manchester 2023. They'll be at our start/finish point on the night.

Remember to please hire your bike in advance, so they know how many to bring. Please email them at info@britishbikehire.co.uk

It won't be possible to hire a bike last minute from them.

The cycle route is mostly on road, so we recommend using a road or hybrid bike. If you plan to use a mountain bike we would advise fitting road tyres for the challenge. You are also more than welcome to use an electric bike or a handbike. We recommend that your bike is serviced before the challenge to minimise the chance of any mechanical problems.

It is vital that you follow the Highway Code throughout the challenge and please note that there will not be road closures for the event.

The route is well lit and on quieter roads wherever possible - however once you arrive in central Manchester, there will be traffic and you should be confident to deal with this.

We recommend that you don't ride alone at any part of the challenge. However, don't be afraid of signing up solo - we have a Lone Riders Facebook group and meet-up on the night, so you can cycle with fellow Ride the Night superheroes. We'll send you the link to the Facebook group once you've signed up to the challenge.

We also ask that you respect the local residents along the route and keep noise levels to a minimum.

Please check out the Ride the Night Safety Video on the Tips and Resources page here. We will also have a short safety briefing prior to setting off on the night of the challenge.

It is very important that you are visible to road users. We will provide you with a free Women V Cancer Ride the Night high-vis vest to wear on the challenge.

It is essential that you have working front and rear bicycle lights for the duration of the challenge and that you bring spare batteries for them. We recommend that you wear additional high-vis clothing.

There will be bike mechanics at the start of the challenge, at all of the rest stops and roaming mechanics along the route. We recommend servicing your bike before the challenge and that you bring a spare inner tube that is specific to your bike.

We have public liability insurance. However, we cannot insure your bicycle on this challenge, so please make sure your bicycle is covered on your home contents insurance or that you take out a specialist bicycle cover.

Ride the Night Manchester 2023 is a hugely important fundraising event for our three crucial Women V Cancer charities. Breast Cancer Now, Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust and Ovarian Cancer Action have invested a lot of money in essential event costs, including your participation, trusting that everyone who has registered for the challenge will take part and do their very best to fundraise or donate a minimum of £100 by Friday 4th August 2023 (6 weeks before the event).

Without your support, our incredible Women V Cancer charities may lose out on the vital funds they need to continue to help those facing cancer.

If you don't think you'll be able to fundraise in time, you have several options:

  • Make a donation on your own fundraising page to reach your £100 target.
  • Transfer your place to Women V Cancer Ride the Night 2024 or another Women V Cancer challenge to give yourself more time to fundraise.
  • Cancel your place on the challenge. This would unfortunately mean that you would lose your registration fee as it is non-refundable.

If you choose to transfer to next year's event or another challenge, please call us on 01590 646410 (Monday-Friday, 9 am-5 pm) or email us at customercare@dream-challenges.com as soon as possible so that we can arrange this for you.

It's all done automatically through your fundraising page so you don't need to do anything. If you have raised funds offline, please let us know by contacting bookings@dream-challenges.com.
