Your itinerary

Saturday 29th April 2023 | From 6pm
Check-in Opens

Check-in to Ride the Night London 2023 opens from 6pm at a beautiful venue in London (TBC), which will mark both the start and end of our challenge, with the first wave of cyclists setting off at 9pm. We'll release the full details of our venue and how to get there closer to the event.

We'll have a bag drop, bike racking, stalls for each of our amazing Women V Cancer charities, a free pasta supper, toilet facilities and stands with refreshments available for you and your supporters to purchase.

Once you've checked in, you can make the most of the exciting atmosphere and enjoy the pre-event warm-ups and entertainment, including motivational music and speeches.

Saturday 29th April 2022 | From 9pm
Staggered Starts

We will set you off in groups of 75 women at 2-minute intervals to take on your expertly-crafted 50km or 100km route around London.

You can select your distance and start time when registering (9.00pm, 9.30pm, 10 pm or 10.30pm). Each start wave has a limited number of spaces, so male sure to book early to secure your preferred start time.

Our routes aren't finalised yet, but you can bet that both the 50km and 100km route will take you past loads of iconic London landmarks. You'll cycle past Buckingham Palace, Westminster, the London Eye and many more world-famous sites, which will look even more beautiful lit up at night.

The routes will be all on-tarmac, mostly flat and circular, finishing back at our start venue. There's no chance you'll get lost, as there'll be clear signposting throughout and marshals peppered along the way to guide you in the right direction.

We'll have Feed Stations (details TBC) with a variety of tasty, free snacks and drinks (vegan and gluten free options available) to keep you energised throughout the challenge. Each Feed Station will also have first aid support, bike mechanics and toilet facilities.

Ride the Night London 2023 is not a race and there are no event timings. We anticipate that faster cyclists will complete the 100km route in around five hours, whilst slower cyclists will take up to ten hours. The 50km route should take around three to five hours.

The cut off time is 7am on Sunday morning, but no-one will be left behind, as we will have a sweeper van behind the final group of cyclists.

FAQs
Ride the Night London 2023

Ride the Night London is non competitive and it isn't designed for professional athletes. It’s designed for women from all cycles of life looking for a challenge to get fit for and push themselves out of their comfort zone to raise funds for people facing cancer.

Cycling 100km (approx. 62 miles) or 50km (approx. 31 miles) in one night is a mighty challenge, but it’s achievable if you train and we provide you with a training plan that you can download at any time from the Ride the Night London 2023 tips and resources page.

A number of the women who will take part in this exciting challenge will have a low fitness level when they sign up. Ride the Night London is the perfect motivation to train and get fit, all whilst raising funds for three amazing charities.

Take it from one of our wonderful past Ride the Nighters, Joanne:

"Come on ladies, I did the 100km challenge and I'd never been on a bike before I signed up. You have people cheering you all the way around and an absolutely fantastic feeling when you finish! I will definitely do it again! When I signed up, I was the same as everyone else, like "sure I can do this," but as the time got closer, I started to question why I had entered - but I'm so glad I did!

It was organised so well that I had no doubts when I arrived. Yes, 100km sounds a lot, but you just do it. We did it in eight hours and it was pain free. So if I could do it in the stupid weather we had, then anyone can!"

To take part in Women V Cancer Ride the Night London 2023, we ask you to fundraise a minimum of £100 by Friday 17th March 2023 (6 weeks before the event) so that your challenge can make a difference for people affected by cancer.

The money you raise is split evenly between our three charities and will go a long way to help them continue their vital work at a critical time...

£30 could buy a bottle of specialist dye to stain cancer cells, so that Ovarian Cancer Action’s researchers can study them with a microscope.

£100 could give someone with breast cancer an hour of vital support from someone who really understands what they’re going through. Breast Cancer Now's Someone Like Me service connects people with breast cancer with someone who’s been through a similar experience.

£330 will enable Jo’s to train 3 volunteers who will then go on to support hundreds of callers through difficult times on the Helpline.

Join the 500 club!

If you raise £500 or more by 29th March 2023, you will get a free official 500 club cycling jersey.

Please take a look at our Tips and Resources here to fuel your inspiration and smash your challenge like a hero. We will also send you fab fundraising ideas in the lead up to the challenge.

The money you raise funds the vital work of our three Women V Cancer charities who are raising awareness, providing support and funding research into breast, ovarian and cervical cancers. This is a hugely important fundraising event for our three crucial Women V Cancer charities. Breast Cancer Now, Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust and Ovarian Cancer Action have invested a lot of money in essential event costs, including your participation, trusting that everyone who has registered for the challenge will take part and do their very best to fundraise or donate a minimum of £100 by Friday 17th March 2023 (6 weeks before the event).

Without your support, our incredible Women V Cancer charities may lose out on the vital funds they need to continue to help those facing cancer.

If you don't think you'll be able to fundraise in time, you have several options:

  • Make a donation on your own fundraising page to reach your £100 target.
  • Transfer your place to Women V Cancer Ride the Night 2023 or another Women V Cancer challenge to give yourself more time to fundraise.
  • Cancel your place on the challenge. This would unfortunately mean that you would lose your registration fee as it is non-refundable.

If you choose to transfer to next year's event or another challenge, please email us at customercare@dream-challenges.com as soon as possible so that we can arrange this for you.

The registration fee and event costs (included in the sponsorship target) cover:

  • Full event management and support - the Dream Team are on hand from the moment you sign up for the challenge to provide any help you may need and answer any questions.
  • A fantastic start/finish venue in London (TBC). There will be toilet facilities, a supervised bag drop and bike racking, help desk etc. We will release full details of the venue closer to the event.
  • Pre-event warm-up and entertainment, with motivational music and speeches, charity and supplier stalls and a variety of refreshments available for you and your supporters to purchase.
  • Pasta supper for all participants before the ride starts.
  • 2 expertly-designed, safety-assessed and signposted routes with marshals.
  • Feed Stations en route, with a variety of tasty refreshments, water and hot drinks (vegan and gluten free options available).
  • Ride the Night London high-vis vest.
  • Ride the Night London 2023 medal.
  • Bicycle mechanics (both roaming and at the start/finish).
  • First aid support (both roaming and at the start/finish).
  • Control Room in operation throughout the event, with medical and route staff who can locate where you are for any non 999 emergencies and get you help as soon as possible.
  • Your Ride the Night London 2023 resources, including training plan, sponsorship forms and Rider Pack, with your Rider Manual, Bike Number and Rider Number.

The more money raised by participants on the challenge the higher the percentage of funds that directly support the work of the three charities, so please do your best to exceed the minimum fundraising target.

Our Ride the Night London 2023 start/finish venue and routes are not yet confirmed, but if you're one of our amazing past Ride the Nighters, you can expect them to be very similar to our 2022 routes. Both the 50km and 100km route will take you past loads of iconic London landmarks, including Buckingham Palace, Westminster, the London Eye and many more world-famous sites.

Closer to the event, we'll release the full route details with GPS links, but there's no way you will get lost, as both routes will be very well sign-posted with marshals peppered at key points along the way to guide you in the right direction. There will also be Feed Stations, with a variety of tasty refreshments to keep you energised throughout your challenge, plus toilet facilities, bike racking and first-aid support.

Both the 50km and the 100km routes are well lit and on tarmac. However, you will still need to have your bike lights on throughout your cycle and to keep spare batteries to hand.

No, there will only be one Ride the Night in 2023, which will take place in London on Saturday 29th April 2023.

You need to be 18 years old or over to take part in Ride the Night London 2023. There's no maximum age limit. One of the amazing things about Women V Cancer Ride the Night London is that it brings adults of all ages and from all cycles of life together for one incredible cause.

16 and 17-year olds may participate if given permission by the event organisers. Please get in touch with us to discuss this. Simply email events@dream-challenges.com and we'll be happy to help.

We're afraid men can't participate in this Women V Cancer challenge. However, they are more than welcome to join the cause as a Ride Maker (aka. Ride the Night London volunteer). We'll have a range of roles for both men and women, from supervising the bike racks to helping out at registration or the rest stops and more.

If you are interested in joining us as a Ride Maker, please get in touch and we will contact you to confirm your place as a Ride Maker.

We're on the lookout for volunteers for Ride the Night London 2023, so if you want to join the cause but can't commit to the challenge, this is an awesome way to get involved.

Ride Makers
We have a range of Ride Maker roles for both men and women, from helping out at registration to supervising the bike racks to supplying riders with well-deserved snacks, refreshments and hot drinks at feed stations - and the list goes on!

Ride Angels
We're also looking for experienced female cyclists, with Breeze or equivalent qualification, to support on the night as Ride Angels.

The role is voluntary, but will involve taking part in the challenge free of charge. Responsibilities will include fixing punctures, marshalling and supporting anyone who is struggling.

If you'd like to help out as a Ride Maker or Ride Angel, please get in touch and we'll contact you to confirm if you have been successful.

You need to bring your own bike and a cycling helmet is essential.

It is also essential that you have front and rear lights fitted on your bike. Please bring spare batteries too. We provide bike mechanics but do ask that you bring a spare inner tube that is specific to your bike, should you get a puncture on the challenge.

Need to hire a bike? We're delighted to have the fantastic British Bike Hire supporting Women V Cancer Ride the Night London 2023.

They'll be at our start/finish point on the night. Remember to please hire your bike in advance, so they know how many to bring. Please email them at info@britishbikehire.co.uk

It won't be possible to hire a bike last minute from them.

Both the 50km and 100km routes are all on road – therefore we recommend using a road or hybrid bike. If you plan to use a mountain bike we would advise fitting road tyres for the challenge.

You are also more than welcome to use an electric bike. We recommend that your bike is serviced before the challenge to minimise the chance of any mechanical problems.

Absolutely! If you plan to take part on a hand bike, please let us know in advance. Please bring your own bike with working front and rear lights, along with a spare inner tube.

There will be bike mechanics at the start of the challenge, at all of the rest stops and roaming mechanics along the route. We recommend servicing your bike before the challenge and that you bring a spare inner tube that is specific to your bike.

We recommend that you don't ride alone at any part of the challenge. However, don't be afraid of signing up solo - we have a Lone Riders Facebook group and meet-up on the night, so you can cycle with fellow Ride the Night London warriors. We'll send you the link to the Facebook group once you've signed up to the challenge.
