Gear up, ladies: Women V Cancer Ride the Night is back for 2019 to kick off the start of summer with a bright pink boost for our three women’s cancer charities.
Cycling 100 km through London at night, you’ll befriend thousands of other super inspiring women from all cycles of life that share your drive to get fit for an amazing cause. Starting and finishing at the beautiful Royal Windsor Racecourse, you’ll soak up the electric Ride The Night vibe with motivational music, speeches and warm-ups. By the time you saddle up at the start line, you’ll be revved up and raring to go.
Our flagship Women V Cancer challenge takes you past many of London’s iconic landmarks, including Westminster Abbey, Trafalgar Square, Buckingham Palace and many more - and they look even more beautiful at night with bright and colourful lights.
Over the last five years, thousands of women have cycled through London at night and raised over £6 million. Join this amazing team of women and help raise funds and awareness for the three invaluable charities, Breast Cancer Care, Ovarian Cancer Action and Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust.
Heads up, ladies - you'll have to be fast to sign up this year as there will only be one ride in London in 2019! This means spaces are limited and they're already going like hot doughnuts!

Enjoy the beautiful scenery and atmosphere, with pre-event warm-ups, refreshments and entertainment, including motivational music and speeches!
We encourage you to relax and make new friends, before you're called to your start wave. With thousands of you all dressed up in bright and beautiful outfits, it's also a great time for a selfie or ten.
You will be set off in groups of seventy-five women at two minute intervals to take on the 100km route around London. You can select your start time when registering (9.00 pm, 9.30 pm, 10 pm or 10.30 pm). Each start wave has a limited number of spaces, so please register now to secure your preferred start time.
There are three rest stops along the way. Each rest stop will have water and snacks available plus first aid support, bike mechanics and toilet facilities. Ride the Night is not a race and there are no event timings. We anticipate that faster cyclists will complete Ride the Night in 4 hours, whilst slower cyclists will take up to eight hours.
The cut off time is 7 am on Sunday morning, but no-one will be left behind as we will have a sweeper van behind the final group of cyclists. There is free parking for all participants at the start/finish point at Royal Windsor Racecourse.
There won't be any changing or showering facilities so please come prepared in your cycling clothing.
The more money raised by participants on the challenge, the higher the percentage of funds that will directly support those affected by women's cancers!
Minimum sponsorship target
We've had quite a few of asking if you need to do anything to get the money on your JustGiving page to the Women V Cancer charities - and the good news is, you don't as it's all done automatically!
As long as you have raised £199 on JustGiving by Friday 12 April2019, your place is confirmed on the ride and you'll receive your final details, including your rider number, in the post two weeks before your challenge.
IMPORTANT: please make sure you set up your JustGiving page for Women V Cancer Ride the Night London 2019 - otherwise, the funds you raise won't go to the Women V Cancer charities and we won't be able to confirm you on the ride!
As long as you have raised £199 on JustGiving, your place is confirmed on the ride and you'll receive your final details, including your rider number, in the post two weeks before your challenge.
If you haven’t managed to pay your £199 in yet and need an extension or you have any other problems – please don’t worry, it's not too late to be confirmed. Please e-mail us on email@example.com or alternatively call us on 01590 646410 and we'll be able to help you. :)
If you have chosen to fundraise together and have set up a joint JustGiving account that covers two or more people – please e-mail us the link to the page and the full names of the people the page is for. All funds paid onto your JustGiving page are automatically sent to Women V Cancer, so you do not need to do anything else.
The £199 minimum sponsorship target for Ride The Night is per individual, regardless of whether you’re in a team or not. So if you have a team of five people, that means each of you needs to raise £199, so if you’re fundraising together, your team would need to raise a minimum of £995.
No, there will only be one ride in London next year on 25 May 2019 - so be super fast to sign up - as spaces are limited and likely to fill up twice as fast as in 2018 when our participants were spread out across two dates!
We're on the look out for volunteers for both Ride the Night London and Edinburgh 2019, so if you have any friends/family members/loved ones that want to join the cause but can't commit to the challenge, please ask them to apply to be a Ride Maker.
We have a range of roles for both men and women, from helping out at registration to supervising the bike racks to supplying riders with well-deserved snacks, refreshments and hot drinks at feed stations - and the list goes on! Please browse the Ride Maker roles for London here.
Likewise, if you or anyone you know fancies joining us as a Ride Maker in Edinburgh, we'd love to have you on this historic event! Please browse the Ride Maker roles for Edinburgh here.
In return we provide a fully signposted route, marshals, water and snack stops, a supper before the ride starts, free car parking at Royal Windsor Racecourse, pink hi-viz cycling vest, cycle number, medal, roaming bicycle mechanics and first aid support etc. The more money raised by participants on the challenge the higher the percentage of funds that directly support the work of the three charities. You are therefore encouraged to exceed the minimum fundraising target.
You need to bring your own bike and a cycling helmet is essential. It is also essential that you have front and rear lights fitted on your bike. Please bring spare batteries too. We provide bike mechanics but do ask that you bring a spare inner tube that is specific to your bike, should you get a puncture on the challenge.
The cycle route is all on road – therefore we recommend using a road or hybrid bike. If you plan to use a mountain bike we would advise fitting road tyres for the challenge. You are also more than welcome to use an electric bike. We recommend that your bike is serviced before the challenge to minimise the chance of any mechanical problems.
Need to hire a bike?
We're delighted to have the fantastic British Bike Hire supporting Women V Cancer Ride the Night 2019 (both London and Edinburgh). They'll be at our start/finish point of the Royal Windsor Racecourse on the night. Remember to please hire your bike in advance, so they know how many to bring. It won't be possible to hire a bike last minute from them. Please book your bike as soon as possible on the British Bike Hire website here.
Cycling 100km (approx. 62 miles) at night is a challenge but something that is definitely achievable with a reasonable amount of training. A number of the women who will take part in this exciting challenge will have little or no fitness level when they sign up. Women V Cancer Ride the Night is the perfect motivation to train and get fit, all whilst raising funds for three amazing causes. We will e-mail you training guidelines to help you get fit for the challenge but if you can't wait, you can download your free Ride The Night training plan here.
It is vital that you follow the Highway Code throughout the challenge. Please note that there will not be road closures on this challenge. The route is well lit and on quieter roads wherever possible - however once you arrive in central London there will be traffic and you should be confident to deal with this. We recommend that you don't ride alone at any part of the challenge. We also ask that you respect the local residents along the route and keep noise levels to a minimum. There will be a safety briefing online and a short safety briefing prior to setting off on the night of the challenge. It is very important that you are visible to road users. We will provide you with a Women V Cancer Ride the Night hi-viz vest to wear on the challenge. It is essential that you have working front and rear bicycle lights for the duration of the challenge and that you bring spare batteries for them. It is recommend that you wear additional hi-viz clothing.
There will be bike mechanics at the start of the challenge, at all of the rest stops and roaming mechanics along the route. We recommend servicing your bike before the challenge and that you bring a spare inner tube that is specific to your bike.
We have public liability insurance. However we cannot insure your bicycle on this challenge, so please make sure your bicycle is covered on your home contents insurance or that you take out a specialist bicycle cover.
If you don't reach your fundraising target you a can either top up the additional funds yourself or simply forfeit your place on the challenge and lose your registration fee.
