Cycle Milan to Monaco

Cycle across three countries in four days on this epic 400 km challenge to jump start motor sports safety. This stunning cycle takes you from the stylish Milan in northern Italy to Monaco, the second smallest country in the world, lying on the French Mediterranean coast. Along the way, you’ll ride through Italian towns, alpine mountains and along gleaming coastlines to the “Pearl of France”, aka. Menton. Upon crossing the border to Monaco, you’ll be in pole position to cycle alongside Formula 1 stars on the sixth Sean Edwards Foundation Memorial Bike Ride. Celebrities who have previously saddled up for this event include Daniel Ricciardo, Nico Hulkenburg, Jenson Button and Eddie Jordan.

This bucket-list cycle ends just in time for the Monaco Grand Prix weekend, which you might know as "Monte Carlo" as most of the circuit lies in the beautiful coastal principality of Monte Carlo, where we spend our last night of the challenge. Our sense of achievement by this point will make the evening lights over the water seem even more magical.

Conquering 400 km in four days is no easy feat but you’ll be rewarded for the long rides and the steep climbs with gorgeous scenery and a brilliant sense of achievement for having conquered a stupendous challenge for an incredible cause.


The Sean Edwards Foundation

All funds raised from this challenge go to the unique charity, the Sean Edwards Foundation, whose simple mission is to drive safety and reduce fatalities in motorsport. The non-profit organisation is named after Sean Edwards, a motorsports star who tragically died at the age of 26 when mentoring a rookie driver in Australia. Your itinerary

Day 1
UK (or elsewhere) - Milan

You jump-start your challenge by arranging your own flight to Milan - Malpensa airport, where one of our Dream Team gives you a warm welcome to Bella Italia. From here, you catch a train to Bruzzano train station in the fashion capital of Milan, a short walk from our hotel. This is where we first meet as a group and enjoy a welcome dinner together, along with a briefing to prep us for our exciting challenge ahead.

Day 2
Milan - Turin | approx. 141 km

After breakfast at the hotel, we kick off for our first and longest day of cycling. We ride west out of Milan and pass through the cities of Novara and Vercelli as we head south-west to Turin, the capital city of Piedmont in northern Italy. Enjoying a gorgeous backdrop of the Alps, Turin also hosts some exquisite Baroque architecture and is famous for its grand squares, such as Piazza San Carlo and Piazza Castello. It’s in this city that we find our hotel and settle down for the night.

Day 3
Turin - Cuneo | approx. 84 km

Our route today treats us to a view of the River Po as we ride alongside it for a short while. We then branch off to cycle through the quaint commune of Carmagnola, the medieval Racconigi and one of Italy’s key silk manufacturing communes, Savigliano, home to sugar factories, cocoon-raising establishments. Pedalling on, we follow a route on varying terrain through Levaldigi and Centallo to finally reach our hotel in Cuneo. Cuneo is also in Piedmont and sits at the beautiful meeting point of the River Gesso and River Stura.

Day 4
Cuneo - Menton | approx. 107 km

We tackle some tough climbs today but are rewarded with long downhill rides and the awesome achievement of reaching France. We bid Ciao to Italy as our route takes us across the border to France, through the stunning mountain range of Parco Natural delle Alpi Marittime. We finish the day in Menton, a colourful town on the French Rivierra nicknamed the “Pearl of France”. Perhaps this is because Menton’s bright yellow and pink buildings could be gems when lit up at night time, their lights gleaming in the Mediterranean shores.

Day 5
Menton – Monaco – Dolceaqua - Monaco | approx. 67.3 km

Rising early, we enjoy our first French breakfast of the trip, before starting the last stretch of our challenge cycling along the sparkling Mediterranean coast to reach the third country of our challenge, Monaco, by 09:00. From here, we join the Sean Edwards Foundation memorial ride that starts at 09.30 and takes us to Dolceaqua in time for lunch. This bike ride gives us the fantastic opportunity to cycle alongside famous Formula 1 drivers, all united in memory of the motorsports star, Sean Edwards, who tragically lost his life in a collision in Australia. The annual event plays an essential role in driving risk awareness and enabling greater safety on the track worldwide. After a break and a spot of lunch, we cycle back to Monaco to check in to our hotel in the gorgeous town and popular tourist destination of Monte Carlo. We could be in paradise as we settle here for our celebration dinner in this idyllic town and revel in our overwhelming sense of achievement at having conquered 400 km in four days for an amazing cause.

Day 6

This is where our adventure ends and after breakfast, you’re free to stay on for the grand prix weekend and explore the delights of Monte Carlo or take a flight home.

Funding options


The more money raised by participants on the challenge the higher the percentage of funds that directly support the work of the Sean Edwards Foundation.


Minimum sponsorship target

  • Pay a non-refundable registration fee and then commit to fundraising a minimum sponsorship target for the Sean Edwards Foundation.
  • Your charitable funds must be paid in 10 weeks before your challenge starts.
  • In return, everything for the challenge is provided – food, accommodation, transfers, guides, medical and technical support.
  • The more money you raise for the challenge, the higher the percentage of funds that directly support the work of the charity.

Cycle Milan to Monaco

Although tough and quite hilly at times, this challenge is not designed for Olympic athletes – it is designed for people looking for an amazing goal to train and get fit for. A number of the people who will take part on this challenge will have little or no fitness level when they sign up, but we strongly recommend that you do train for the challenge. We will provide you with an achievable training plan well ahead of time so you'll be ready and raring to go by the challenge start date. This challenge is the perfect motivation to get fit, lose weight and have an experience of a lifetime.

Please don't be! The majority of people will sign up on their own. After you sign up, we'll send you a link to a private Facebook Group for Cycle Milan to Monaco, where you can chat with other participants that will be cycling from Milan to Monaco with you. Our past challengers have found these Facebook groups really useful for swapping training and fundraising tips as well as helping to motivate and support each other while prepping for the challenge. You can of course also use this group as a way to organise meet-ups before the challenge, as often there will be someone in your local area you can meet up to train or fundraise with.

Absolutely not! One of the amazing things about the challenge is that people of all ages will come together to do something very special. The age range is likely to be from 18 to a youthful 75.

A cycle helmet is essential and must be worn at all times. Cycling shorts are also recommended and everyone will need their own water bottles or a camel back-type hydration system. A kit list for the challenge will be sent to you when you register. A bicycle mechanic will be travelling with the group but you will be expected to bring two spare inner tubes, if you decide to bring your own bike.

You need to bring your own bike and helmet for this challenge and please check out your airline's website to check their fees for bikes and their packing requirements. A road bike will be best, or you may choose to use a hybrid, but we wouldn't recommend a mountain bike.

Please also make sure to bring your helmet. Helmets are mandatory and you won't be able to take part in the cycling challenge without one. Safety is our Grand Prix-ority (get it?).

We will stay in comfortable 3 - 4* hotels for the duration of this challenge.

No, your main luggage will be transported each day by our support team. Each participant however will be organising their own flights, so you'll be responsible for your own luggage on the plane. We advise you to pack light and to please make sure to check your airline's bike packing requirements and fees. You will need a bag to go on your bike or a waste bag for things like your camera, sun cream, tissues etc. Any extra items you may need during the day can be carried on the support vehicle, which you will have access to at the snack stops and lunch.

Yes of course! As you are responsible for organising your own flights, it is completely up to you which dates you book them for (as long as they give enough time for you to take part in the full challenge).

Your flights to Milan and from Monte Carlo will not be included, so you do need to arrange and pay for these yourself, along with your personal travel insurance to cover your challenge. You will need to take out your own personal travel insurance covering health, accident, loss and repatriation. Dream Challenges has a recommended policy, which we will send you the details of. You can however take out your own insurance providing it covers you for a charity cycle in Italy, France and Monaco. Each participant needs to organise their own tourist visa if needed. Currently, UK citizens don't require a visa to enter these three countries. If this changes, we will let you know and provide you with all the information you need.
