Cycle Italy's Lakes

A hilly yet relaxed challenge in the heart of Bella Italia. Raise money and enjoy the fantastic scenery in tandem with your team as you get into gear and take on a beautiful 350 km cycle. This 6-day adventure will take us through some of the most beautiful parts of Italy to the city of love, Verona, with spectacular lakes, vineyards, mountains and castles to admire along the way. This is a truly enchanting challenge and you can experience all this while raising funds for the charity of your choice.

A highlight of this classic European cycle challenge will undoubtedly be the magnificent Lake Garda, the largest lake in Italy, surrounded by glaciers and stunning mountain scenery.

Other spectacular features include quaint towns such as Bolzano, famous for its cycling paths, and Merano, the ‘garden city’, famous for its exquisite ancient monuments and gardens.

Your itinerary

Day 1
London - Italy

Today, we depart London for Italy and transfer to Passo Resia. This stunning region marks the meeting point of Italy, Switzerland and Austria, where snow-capped peaks dominate the horizon and mountain lakes reflect the crisp sky. One of the most iconic sights is the clock tower, which juts out of the centre of Lake Resia, one of the largest lakes in the Alps. We check into our hotel this evening and the group has dinner.

Day 2
Passo Resia - Merano | 83 km

Starting from Lake Resia, surrounded by alpine mountains, we cycle downhill past beautiful meadows, orchards, medieval ramparts, fortresses and ancient castles. We spend the night in Merano, also known as ‘the garden city’ for its beautiful terraced gardens on mountainous slopes. The large town is packed with stunning architecture, history and the picturesque Trauttmansdorff Castle and has a modern twist, today, it is a popular alpine spa town.

Day 3
Merano - Trento | 93 km / 280m ascent

Flanked by vineyards, we ride to picturesque Bolzano, nestled quaintly in a valley between the Adige and Isarco rivers, before cycling uphill along old railway to Appiano. We eventually drop down to sparkling Kalterersee, where we cycle the Adige Valley to the castles and squares of beautiful Trento.

Day 4
Trento - Garda Lake | 85km / 450m ascent

The path undulates alongside many castles today, most notably the Medieval Avio and the white stone nineteenth century Castello di Rivoli. Eventually, we reach the stunning valley of Caprino and beautiful Lake Garda, the largest in Italy, surrounded by glaciers, mountains and a charming town.

Day 5
Garda - Verona | 70km / 850m ascent

Leaving breath-taking Lake Garda behind, we cycle upwards to Valpolicella, an area west of Verona, famous for its vineyards and world-renowned wines – which we sample over a delicious local lunch! The afternoon sees us arrive at the city of love, fair Verona, full of squares, palaces and monuments and the setting of Romeo and Juliet.

Day 6
Italy - London

We transfer to the airport to fly back to London.

Cycle Italy's Lakes

This challenge is not designed for Olympic athletes – it is designed for people looking for an amazing goal to train and get fit for. A number of the people who will take part on this challenge will have little or no fitness level when they sign up. Cycle Italy’s Lakes is the perfect motivation to get fit, lose weight and have an experience of a lifetime.

Please don't be! The majority of people will sign up on their own. Once the event is fully booked we will send you a contact list of everyone registered for the challenge, as often there will be someone in your local area you can meet up to train or fundraise with.

Absolutely not! One of the amazing things about the challenge is that people of all ages will come together to do something very special. The age range is likely to be from 18 to 75.

A bicycle will be required for this event, which you are responsible for getting to and from the challenge start and end points in Italy. A cycling helmet is essential. Cycling shorts are also recommended and everyone will need their own water bottles or a camel back-type hydration system. Apart from that no specialist equipment is required. We will supply you with a list of everything you will need to take before you go. If you require bike hire please get in touch and we can arrange this for a small fee.

We will stay in tourist class hotels, lodges and guest houses in shared rooms throughout.

Yes of course! If you wish to extend your stay you will need to come out of our group flights (and of course we would deduct the cost from your balance). If you contact us in the office we would be happy to recommend some ideas for pre or post trips and can arrange additional nights if need.

In addition to paying your registration fee, you will need to budget for booking your own flights and the cost of transporting your bicycle to Italy (please check the baggage small print carefully).

You will need to take out your own personal travel insurance covering health, accident, loss and repatriation. Dream Challenges has a recommended policy, which we will send you details of. You can however take out your own insurance providing it covers you for a charity cycle ride in Italy. British nationals do not need a visa to enter Italy.

The Dream Challenges team are here to help you achieve your challenge and will support you all the way. We are on hand from the minute you sign up to answer any questions that you may have about your training or the challenge itself. Once you have registered we will send you a realistic training programme to help you get fit for the event. The programme builds up gradually as the event gets closer.
