Cycle Ibiza 2022

Woah, we’re going to Ibiza! Pop on your helmet and hop on your venga-bike for a colossal three-day ride in Ibiza.

Together we’ll soak up the highlights, hotspots and hidden gems of this exquisite Mediterranean island, from its mountaintop panoramas to its turquoise coast to its dramatic valleys and mighty climbs. In three days, we’ll conquer a breath-taking 310km and end with a sparkling Ibiza-style celebration.

Ibiza may be renowned for its night-life and package holidays but this pedal party is far from a sunbathing session. We’ll cycle the entire perimeter of the island and wind through the hills and communities at its heart.

Tough climbs will reward us with unforgettable views over the Mediterranean Sea from all directions, quiet picnic spots in secluded coves and smooth descents through the mountains.

We’ll hit the closing of party season, which gives us ideal cycling weather, quieter roads and more space at our stunning beach-side accommodation.

covid-19 - keeping you safe
As we hope you know, the health and safety of our participants is always - and has always been - our highest priority.

Our team of experts here at DC has created a brilliant 14-step initiative, to minimise the risk of coronavirus and maximise your safety. Please click here to see our ground-breaking plan and rest assured that you're safe booking with us.

Worried about fundraising? don't be...

Cycle Ibiza 2022 is an Open Challenge – this means you have the option to self fund your participation and there is no minimum fundraising requirement.

You are, of course, more than welcome to commit to a minimum sponsorship target instead and fundraise for a charity, hospice or animal sanctuary of your choice.

Your itinerary

Day 1
UK – Amare Beach | Make your own travel arrangements

We first meet at the fantastic four-star Amare Beach Hotel in Ibiza, close to Sant Antonio. This is our base for the challenge and our home for the next four nights, so feel free to unpack and get comfortable.

For this European adventure, we ask you to make your own travel arrangements, including your flight and transfer to/from the airport.

Remember to choose a bike-friendly airline, as you need to bring your own. You may also choose to pre-order a hire bike (at your own expense), so if you choose to do this, it’ll be waiting for you at the hotel.

Our hotel is less than thirty minutes (18km) from the airport and you can even book a private transfer on the hotel website, making it a dream to get to.

Please note that travel and bike hire are not included in your challenge costs. You have the freedom to fly from your local airport and bag a budget price.

Once you’ve checked-in to the hotel, no later than 5pm, our Dream Team will help you set up your bike, if needed. The rest of the day is then free for you to spend as you wish, before we meet in the evening for a delicious welcome dinner.

We finish the day with a challenge briefing from our local challenge leader.

Day 2
Amare Beach – Cala Salada – Amare Beach | approx. 75km (ascent: 1,200m)

Breakfast at our beach-side hotel sets us up for a phenomenal figure-of-eight loop of the island. Kicking off down the coast, we get a first taste of Ibiza’s smooth tarmac and sparkling Mediterranean Sea views.

Before long, we drop into the secluded coves of Cala Moli and Cala Valdella, whose turquoise crystal shores and peaceful ambience make them a joy to ride.

Another undulating stretch takes us to our lunch stop and we enjoy a rest and picnic on the beach at Cala Salada. Why not cool off and dip your toes in the aquamarine sea or better yet, take a swim?

Make sure to leave time to dry, as after lunch, we’re back on our bikes for a tough approx. 4km climb, averaging 6%.
Reaching higher ground makes the scenery all the more extraordinary and the sweat more satisfying!

Finally, we roll back to our hotel for a well-deserved dinner and rest.

Day 3
Amare Beach – Santa Eularia – Amare Beach | approx. 130km (ascent: 2,200m)

Prepare for hilly heaven! After breakfast at the hotel, we’ll cycle the entire perimeter of Ibiza and discover the contrasts between the beaches and towns that line its coast. If you have a helmet camera, now is definitely the time to wear it, as we’re in for unending panoramas, befitting of paradise.

Getting half of our cycle behind us before lunch, we stop for a well-deserved break at Santa Eulalia. This sets us up for the remaining route back to Amare Beach.

This evening, dinner is not included, which gives you the freedom to try out one of the many excellent eating establishments in the area.

If you’d like to keep it closer to the hotel after all that cycling, why not visit the world-famous Café Mambo or Café del Mar? Or perhaps our ride around the island has given you a taste for more exploring tonight without your bike.

With the Old Town only a 30-minute taxi away, the island is your oyster. But remember, we have another long stretch in the saddle tomorrow, so wherever you go, don’t get too zealous with the cocktails.

Day 4
Amare Beach – Sant Mateu d'Albarca – Amare Beach | approx. 105km (ascent: 1,700m)

We’ve made it to our third and final day of cycling. Heading west along the coast, we soon divert along quiet country lines to discover more of inland Ibiza.

We'll wind our way through the rolling hills of the island’s heart, encounter tranquil towns and explore the spectacular agricultural plain of Pla d’Albarca. As you’d expect from an area famous for its wine, we get some gorgeous views of vinyards and stop for lunch at a traditional Spanish restaurant in Sant Mateu.

Refreshed, we tackle a triumphant 4km climb back to the coast. This zig-zagging ascent averages 4%, with a mighty final push at 8%.

Needless to say, our last stretch on flatter terrain gives us the perfect cool-down, taking us to our finish line at Amare Beach. Here, we celebrate with sparkling wine – a taster for later!

Tonight, we enjoy our very well-deserved celebration dinner at the hotel and toast to our incredible achievement.

If you'd like to carry on the celebrations, we’re organising an exciting night out (not included) at one of the iconic Ibiza nightclubs! We expect to catch the clubs’ closing parties, so we’re likely to see some big DJs in town. We'll send all participants details of this as the challenge gets closer.

Day 5
Amare Beach – UK | make your own travel arrangements

After breakfast, our adventure comes to an end. As you make your own travel arrangements, you can start your journey right away or feel free to extend your stay in Ibiza for a more relaxing experience of the island.

This challenge is not designed for Olympic athletes, but it's certainly no ride in the park. These winding and undulating cycling routes will push you to the peak and require a fair amount of fitness.

If you're new to cycling, it's nothing a decent amount of training can't gear you up for. As long as you're willing to get fit in time for the ride and you're up for the challenge, go for it!

This adventure is the perfect motivation to shape up for the summer and fundraise for the cause closest to your heart.

Once you have registered, we'll send you a realistic and achievable training plan, which builds up gradually as the event gets closer.

The cycle route is all on road – therefore we recommend using a road or hybrid bike.

We recommend that your bike is serviced before the challenge to minimise the chance of any mechanical problems.

Need to hire a bike?

You are also welcome to hire a bike for an additional charge of 25-40 euros per day, depending on the spec of the bike you want to hire. This is payable upon your arrival at the Amare Beach Hotel.

If you choose to do this, please pre-order your hire bike in advance. We'll send all participants details of this as the challenge gets closer.

Your bike will then be waiting for you at our hotel, ready for our bike fitting on Day 1.

You must bring your own bike for this challenge or choose to hire one in advance for an additional charge of 25-40 euros per day, depending on the spec of the bike you want to hire.

A cycle helmet is essential and must be worn at all times. Cycling shorts are also recommended and everyone will need their own water bottles or a CamelBak-type hydration system.

Apart from that, no specialist equipment is required. We will supply you with a list of everything you will need to take before you go.

We'll also send all participants a free Travel Safety Kit ahead of the challenge and it's essential you bring this with you to minimise both your own and your fellow participants' risk of COVID-19.

Your Travel Safety Kit will include hand sanitiser, anti-bac wipes and face masks for each day of the challenge. Please note, you do not have to wear face masks while cycling.

Please don't be! The majority of people will sign up on their own and our Dream Challenges are renowned for the camaraderie and friendships made as our groups take on these incredible feats together.

Once you've signed up for the challenge, we'll send you a link to a private Facebook group for everyone registered for Cycle Ibiza.

Please feel free to use this space to swap questions, advice and updates with your fellow cyclists on your training and fundraising.

You may also want to reach out to your fellow participants in this group to see if there's anyone in your local area you can meet up to train and fundraise with.

We will stay at the fantastic four-star Amare Beach Hotel near Sant Antonio, throughout this challenge (three nights) on a twin-sharing basis.

Our hotel accommodation is included in your challenge cost on a twin-sharing basis.

However if you would prefer to have a room to yourself and pay for a single supplement, we'll be happy to arrange this for you at an additional cost of £150. (Please note, this is NOT included in your challenge cost).

If you would like a single supplement, please get in touch by emailing us at events@dream-challenges.com or call us on 01590 646410 (Monday - Friday, 9am - 5pm).

You will need to make your own way to the hotel on Day 1, so please visit the hotel website here for information on how to get there.

The Amare Beach Hotel is less than thirty minutes (18km) from the airport and you can even book a private transfer on the hotel website, making it a dream to get to.

The hotel address is:

Carrer La Rioja, 9

07829 Sant Josep de sa Talaia, Illes Balears

Absolutely not! One of the amazing things about the challenge is that people of all ages will come together to do something very special. Everyone aged 18 or over is more than welcome to join the ride.

No, as we stay at the same hotel throughout the challenge, your main luggage can stay there.

Each participant however will be organising their own flight to and from Ibiza, so you'll be responsible for your own luggage on the plane.

We advise you to pack light. You will need a bag to go on your bike or a waist bag for things like your camera, sun cream, tissues, your free Travel Safety Kit etc.

Any extra items you may need during the day can be carried on the support vehicle, which you will have access to at the snack stops and lunch.

Yes of course! As you are responsible for organising your own flights to and from Ibiza, it is completely up to you which dates you book them for (as long as they give enough time for you to take part in the full challenge).

Please note, though, that for our first night, we will be staying in a hotel together and meeting as a group for the first time, so you do need to make sure you arrive by 5pm.

The group is likely to be 30 participants.

You will need to take out your own personal travel insurance covering health, accident, loss and repatriation. We have a policy that also covers you for COVID-19 and will send you the details when you register.

Currently, UK citizens do not require a visa for Ibiza, but we'll let you know if this changes before the challenge.

As we're not medically trained, we're afraid we can't offer you advice on this. We recommend you contact your GP or your local travel clinic, who will have the latest travel health advice.

We also recommend you visit the NHS Fit for Travel website here, to keep up to date with current travel health news and advice on staying healthy abroad.
