Cycle Ibiza 2022

For a limited time only, we're introducing £1 registration fees for all Dream Challenges in 2022 and 2023 and up to 15% off your tour costs for early 2023 challenges!*

Woah, we’re going to Ibiza! Pop on your helmet and hop on your venga-bike for a colossal ride through Ibiza.

Together we’ll soak up the highlights, hotspots and hidden gems of this exquisite Mediterranean island, from its mountaintop panoramas to its turquoise coast to its dramatic valleys and mighty climbs. In three days, we’ll conquer a breath-taking 311km and end with a sparkling Ibiza-style celebration.

Ibiza may be renowned for its nightlife and package holidays but this pedal party is far from a sunbathing session. We’ll cycle the entire perimeter of the island and wind through the hills and communities at its heart.

Tough climbs will reward us with unforgettable views over the Mediterranean Sea from all directions, quiet picnic spots in secluded coves and smooth descents through the mountains.

We’ll hit the closing of party season, which gives us ideal cycling weather, quieter roads and more space at our stunning beach-side accommodation.

Your itinerary

Day 1
Santa Eulalia, Ibiza | Make your own travel arrangements

We first meet at the boutique La Bohemia del Rio in Ibiza, located in Santa Eulalia. This is our base for the challenge and our home for the next four nights, so feel free to unpack and get comfortable.

For this European adventure, we ask you to make your own travel arrangements, including your flight and transfer to/from the airport. Remember to choose a bike-friendly airline, as you need to bring your own. You may also choose to pre-order a hire bike (at your own expense), so if you choose to do this, it’ll be waiting for you at the hotel. Please note that travel and bike hire are not included in your challenge costs. You have the freedom to fly from your local airport and bag a budget price.

Our hotel is just thirty minutes (22km) from the airport. It’s easy to get to and we ask you to arrive no later than 5pm. Once you’ve checked-in, our Dream Team will help you set up your bike, if needed. The rest of the day is then free for you to spend as you wish, before we meet in the evening for a delicious welcome dinner and a challenge briefing from our local challenge leader.

Day 2
La Bohemia del Rio – Cala Mastella – La Bohemia del Rio | approx. 67km (ascent: 575m)

Breakfast at our hotel sets us up for a beautiful day exploring the secluded bays and villages in the north of the island. Kicking off at the hotel, we follow the coast from Santa Eulalia and explore the remote towns and villages on the route, including Es Canar, with its whitewashed houses overlooking a tiny working harbour, and Cala Mastella, with one of the smallest and quietest beaches on the island. The perfect place to cool off with a dip in the crystal-clear waters.

We then head inland, criss-crossuing through olive and almond orchards and agricultural lands, reaching higher ground along undulating remote roads. We test ourselves with some short ascents of no more than 5km at a time, making it the ideal route for our first day in the saddle. Finally, we roll back to our hotel for a well-deserved dinner and rest.

Day 3
La Bohemia del Rio – Sant Josep de sa Talaia – La Bohemia del Rio | approx. 70km (ascent: 820m)

After breakfast at the hotel, we cycle the southwest perimeter of Ibiza and discover the contrasts between the beaches and towns that line its coast. If you have a helmet camera, now is definitely the time to use it, as we’re in for unending panoramas, befitting of paradise.

This evening, dinner is not included, which gives you the freedom to try out one of the many excellent eating establishments in the area. As the third largest town on the island, Santa Eulalia’s streets are alive with fantastic restaurants, earning it a reputation for being the gastronomic centre of Ibiza. You will be sure to find something to suit any palate.

Or perhaps our ride around the island has given you a taste for more exploring tonight without your bike. Remember, we have another long stretch in the saddle tomorrow, so wherever you go, don’t get too zealous with the cocktails.

Day 4
La Bohemia del Rio – Sant Antoni de Portmany – La Bohemia del Rio | approx. 66km (ascent: 560m)

We’ve made it to our third and final day of cycling as we head along quiet country lanes to discover more of inland Ibiza.

Mounting our bikes at the hotel, we wind our way through the rolling hills of the island’s heart, encounter tranquil towns and explore spectacular agricultural plains. As you’d expect from an area famous for its wine, we get some gorgeous views of vinyards on the way.

The interior of the island is very quiet, and we have the roads mainly to ourselves as we explore the heartlands, making a stop in the charming village of Santa Gertruids de Fruitera

Needless to say, our last stretch on flatter terrain gives us the perfect cool-down, taking us to our finish line at La Bohemia del Rio. Here, we celebrate with sparkling wine – a taster for later!

Tonight, we enjoy our very well-deserved celebration dinner at a local restaurant and toast to our incredible achievement.

Day 5
La Bohemia del Rio – UK | make your own travel arrangements

After breakfast, our adventure comes to an end. As you make your own travel arrangements, you can start your journey right away or feel free to extend your stay in Ibiza for a more relaxing experience of the island.

This challenge is not designed for Olympic athletes, but it's certainly no ride in the park. These winding and undulating cycling routes will push you to the peak and require a fair amount of fitness.

If you're new to cycling, it's nothing a decent amount of training can't gear you up for. As long as you're willing to get fit in time for the ride and you're up for the challenge, go for it!

This adventure is the perfect motivation to shape up for the summer and fundraise for the cause closest to your heart.

Once you have registered, we'll send you a realistic and achievable training plan, which builds up gradually as the event gets closer.

The cycle route is all on road – therefore we recommend using a road or hybrid bike.

We recommend that your bike is serviced before the challenge to minimise the chance of any mechanical problems.

Need to hire a bike?

You are also welcome to hire a bike for an additional charge of 25-40 euros per day, depending on the spec of the bike you want to hire. This is payable upon your arrival at the La Bohemia del Rio.

If you choose to do this, please pre-order your hire bike in advance. We'll send all participants details of this as the challenge gets closer.

Your bike will then be waiting for you at our hotel, ready for our bike fitting on Day 1.

You must bring your own bike for this challenge or choose to hire one in advance for an additional charge of 25-40 euros per day, depending on the spec of the bike you want to hire.

A cycle helmet is essential and must be worn at all times. Cycling shorts are also recommended and everyone will need their own water bottles or a CamelBak-type hydration system.

Apart from that, no specialist equipment is required. We will supply you with a list of everything you will need to take before you go.

Please don't be! The majority of people will sign up on their own and our Dream Challenges are renowned for the camaraderie and friendships made as our groups take on these incredible feats together.

Once you've signed up for the challenge, we'll send you a link to a private Facebook group for everyone registered for Cycle Ibiza 2022.

Please feel free to use this space to swap questions, advice and updates with your fellow cyclists on your training and fundraising.

You may also want to reach out to your fellow participants in this group to see if there's anyone in your local area you can meet up to train and fundraise with.

We will stay at the fantastic La Bohemia del Rio throughout this challenge (three nights) on a twin-sharing basis.

Our hotel accommodation is included in your challenge cost on a twin-sharing basis.

However if you would prefer to have a room to yourself and pay for a single supplement, we'll be happy to arrange this for you at an additional cost of £150. (Please note, this is NOT included in your challenge cost).

If you would like a single supplement, please get in touch by emailing us at customercare@dream-challenges.com or call us on 01590 646410 (Monday - Friday, 9am - 5pm). La Bohemia del Rio is about thirty minutes (22km) from the airport, making it easy to get to.

Absolutely not! One of the amazing things about the challenge is that people of all ages will come together to do something very special. Everyone aged 18 or over is more than welcome to join the ride.

No, as we stay at the same hotel throughout the challenge, your main luggage can stay there.

Each participant however will be organising their own flight to and from Ibiza, so you'll be responsible for your own luggage on the plane.

We advise you to pack light. You will need a bag to go on your bike or a waist bag for things like your camera, sun cream, tissues etc.

Any extra items you may need during the day can be carried on the support vehicle, which you will have access to at the snack stops and lunch.

Yes of course! As you are responsible for organising your own flights to and from Ibiza, it is completely up to you which dates you book them for (as long as they give enough time for you to take part in the full challenge).

Please note, though, that for our first night, we will be staying in a hotel together and meeting as a group for the first time, so you do need to make sure you arrive by 5pm.

The group is likely to be 30 participants.

You will need to take out your own personal travel insurance covering health, accident, loss and repatriation. We have a policy that also covers you for cancellation due to medically-diagnosed COVID-19 and will send you the details when you register.

Please ask the insurer about the nature of the cover. It is your responsibility to ensure you have adequate cover for your challenge.

Currently, UK citizens do not require a visa for Ibiza, but we'll let you know if this changes before the challenge.

As we're not medically trained, we're afraid we can't offer you advice on this. We recommend you contact your GP or your local travel clinic, who will have the latest travel health advice.

We also recommend you visit the NHS Fit for Travel website here, to keep up to date with current travel health news and advice on staying healthy abroad.
