Britain V Cancer - Trek Cambodia

Britain V Cancer is a very special and unique event as everyone that takes part in the challenge will be raising funds for the cancer charity or hospice of their choice.

It will be life-changing in many ways: for you the individual who will achieve your own personal challenge and for the people across Britain who will benefit from the incredible work carried out by the cancer charities and hospices you choose to support. This amazing trekking challenge will take you through stunning jungles and traditional Cambodian villages to a spectacular finish line at the ancient ruins of Angkor Wat.

Along the way, there will be the opportunity to visit a local school and we will spend one very special night with a Cambodian family for a home stay. The challenge will be tough but the friendship and camaraderie along the way will be very special.

Your itinerary

Days 1 & 2
Arrive in Siem Reap

Our first day sees us departing the UK on an overnight flight to Siem Reap, the gateway to the ancient city of Angkor. Once we land, we meet the local guides and settle into the hotel. The group enjoys dinner together this evening, where we find out more about the challenge ahead.

Day 3
Siem Reap – Hidden Forest Temple of Banteay Empil | approx. 7 hours walking

We begin our trek at the Siem Reap stream, trekking towards Tonle Sap Lake and the Chao Srei Vibol temple. Highlights include traditional markets, villages, Khmer houses, rice paddy fields, a local picnic lunch, and night at a Buddhist temple in the monastery of Wat Preah Bat Bun, surrounded by jungle!

Day 4
Wat Preah Bat Bun Than – Beng Mealea – Svay Leur We | approx. 5 hours walking

Today, we follow ancient farmer paths deep into the jungle, stopping for lunch at traditional Phum Thmey village. In the afternoon, we continue trekking towards the forest temple of Beng Mealea, where we take a short transfer to Svay Leur, to camp at a jungle monastery.

Day 5
Svay Leur – Kulen Mountain – Anlong Thom | approx. 5.5 hours walking

Today, we visit a local market en-route to Kulen Mountain, which we hike up for panoramic views and a picnic lunch. We trek across the Kulen Mountain to the jungle village of Anlong Thom, visiting an isolated mountain school, before curling up in a rustic homestay for the night.

Day 6
Anlong Thom-Koulen Jungle Exploring – Valley of 1000 Lingas – Siem Reap | approx. 7 hours walking

After exploring the Kulen Mountain national park and its various intriguing shrines, we trek to the Grand Buddha Reclining. Here we enjoy a magnificent waterfall, and explore the valley of a 1000 Lingas – ancient carvings under the riverbed – before transferring to our Siem Reap hotel.

Day 7
Angkor National Park - Angkor | approx. 5 hours walking

We finish our challenge by touring the ancient ruins of Angkor by foot. Beginning at Ta Prohm, we trek through the Angkor National Park to the forest temple of Ta Ney, before visiting the Ghost Gate and the Bayon temple. After a local lunch, we explore King Jayavarman VII’s ancient underground tunnels, take a boat ride across Angkor Thom City moat, and end the day at the iconic Angkor Wat.

Day 8
Explore Siem Reap

We have a free day to explore Siem Reap before our flight home the next morning.

Britain V Cancer - Trek Cambodia

This challenge is not designed for Olympic athletes – it is designed for people looking for an amazing goal to train and get fit for. A number of the people who will take part on this challenge will have little or no fitness level when they sign up. This challenge is the perfect motivation to get fit, lose weight and have an experience of a lifetime.

Please don't be! The majority of people will sign up on their own and our Dream Challenges are renowned for the amazing camaraderie and life long friendships made as our groups take on these incredible feats together.

Once you've signed up for the challenge, we'll send you a link to a private Facebook group for everyone registered for the Britain V Cancer Trek Cambodia 2018. Please feel free to use this space to swap questions, advice and updates with your fellow trekkers on your training and fundraising. You may also want to reach out to the fellow participants in this group to see if there's anyone in your local area you can meet up to train and fundraise with.

Absolutely not! One of the amazing things about the challenge is that people of all ages will come together to do something very special. The age range is likely to be from 18 to 75.

You will of course need a pair of walking boots. We will supply you with a comprehensive list of everything you will need to take on the event well before your departure date.

The accommodation will vary throughout this exciting challenge. We will spend some nights in tourist class hotels, two nights camping and one very special night at a local family home on the top of Koulen Mountain.

Yes of course! If you wish to extend your stay you will need to come out of our group flights (and of course we would deduct the cost from your balance).

In addition to paying your registration fee you will need to budget for your airport taxes and the fuel surcharge, personal travel insurance, visa, gratuities, optional tours and personal expenses.

You will need to take out your own personal travel insurance covering health, accident, loss and repatriation. Dream Challenges has a recommended policy, which we will send you details of. You can however take out your own insurance providing it covers you for a charity trek in Cambodia. You will need to apply for a visa to obtain entry into Cambodia, we will send you all the relevant information and forms in plenty of time.

The Dream Challenges team are here to help you achieve your challenge and will support you all the way. We are on hand from the minute you sign up to answer any questions that you may have about your training or the challenge itself. Once you have registered we will send you a realistic training programme to help you get fit for the event. The programme builds up gradually as the event gets closer.
